I wasn't aware the iPhone has a built-in gaydar! I was typing a message and accidentally typed 'bette' while trying for 'better'. My iPhone auto-capitalised to 'Bette'.

Interesting. How did she get that reputation, if you know? I see nothing in her Wikipedia entry that would explain it.

You don't necessarily have to do anything in particular. Being a diva and performing in musical theatre is generally a good way in.

She did also regularly perform in a gay bathhouse early on in her career, which I'm sure helped.
