Vampire Diaries 1x09

I have been catching up on Vampire Diaries the last week or so. It's fun so far, but something happened in 1x09 that I really didn't like.

I can't believe Lexi was killed! That made me so mad. I liked that there was another non-douchebag vampire and a genuine friend for Stefan.

I also have this thing with stories that have immortal characters that I really hate when the particularly old ones die (Lexi being the oldest vampire we've heard of so far in Vampire Diaries). Like when some ancient vampire in an Anne Rice novel dies. It seems like such an... achievement to get there, just to have it ripped away.

I watch Vampire Diaries (although not especially seriously, mostly so I can go "whaaaat" at Kat periodically), and I was so excited the whole time Lexi was on the show because she seemed legitimately awesome, a female character who was snappy and sharp and pretty interesting, plus a vampire who was more powerful than Damon, etc.

And then... yeah.

She could have been my most favorite character!

I'm not even sure why I'm watching this show particularly. Probably just because I like vampire stories.

I've realised I don't actually yet have a favourite character in this show. Maybe Bonnie, but even she gets whiny/dumb sometimes. Or Jenna, actually, but she doesn't get much airtime. I think Lexi could easily have made the cut if Damon didn't kill her.

It's not the worst vampire story I've ever read or watched, but it's not the best either.

I like Jenna, mostly. Bonnie is pretty awesome, and I hope her storyline keeps getting more awesome, because maybe she could turn into my favorite character.

I kind of like Damon but it's more in a love to hate way, and also in a 'confused about his motives which makes him a little intriguing' way.
